Topic: any Japanese Earthquake/Tsunami benefits lined up?

obviously short notice but following the catastrophic events in Japan I was just wondering if there are any benefit events lined up already? Would be 100% into giving any support I can to any events or projects hoping to help alleviate the unimaginable suffering over there.

Or perhaps the proceeds from the sale of the Crass remastered LPs could go to help alleviate the suffering in this tragedy? It's not like any of those who would benefot from the proceeds really need them in the same way the inhabitants of the Japanese towns and cities who have had their lives destroyed do. There are quite a few humanitarian aid operations in effect so it would be easy enough to organise. Enough 'mainstream' acts are doing similar already.

Hoping some of the bands playing the forthcoming ScumFest, Rebellion and Fuck The Royal Wedding events may do the same with their fees, more-so the organisers with their some of their profits.

Sorry... I should probably have posted something like this up:

Hopefully that may engender some response or interest smile

So heartening to see that the thread on the covers of some people's crass reissue cds getting an itsy bitsy bit damaged in the post is still receiving more hits than the only one on this forum that even mentions the catastrophe in Japan.

No wonder certain former members have never wanted anything to do with crass's FANbase since leaving.

I don't think a forum can be sad in and of itself though it certainly needs a bit of cheering up. This is a fan site for people who like music, and particularly the music of CRASS. That this makes it into a consumer spectacle certainly negates what CRASS stood for, or at least the band I knew. It's to do with how we value things.

There are two values - monetary value within the capitalist philosophy and the value of what something represents. The purchase of radical products then is a means to associate with a radical idea without actually participating in it. The CRASS ethos - do it yourself - includes participation in 'it' (whatever 'it' may be) and not passive consumption per se.

Obsession negates action - why live in the shadows...

Hey Smut Peddler! Dunno if this was what you had in mind but the very nice people at the emo/HC/indie-label Engineer Recs have lined up a benefit-compilation for download at http://engineerrecords.bandcamp.com/

"The big album, with an even bigger heart! Featuring The Gaslight Anthem, Funeral For A Friend, Kyoto Drive, Moneen and Fightstar, as well as a host of other fantastic artists, and includes many exclusive tracks that won’t have been heard before and which have been produced solely for this compilation – so you wont be able to get them elsewhere."

All the profit from the last U.K.Subs dvd (Tour in Progress) went to help a Japanese family affected by the earthquake. The proceeds from the next Time & Matter release wil go to them too. Subs guitarist, Jet, also recently auctioned one of his guitars to raise money for the cause. All the info is on the Subs website www.uksubstimeandmatter.net.
You can also contribute at any of their gigs over the coming months.
